Best Practice Guide: Installing MEDITE TRIMAX Cladding

Installing MEDITE TRIMAX correctly ensures a long-lasting, low-maintenance, and beautiful result. Follow these steps, and check the installation video for a visual guide on how to install MEDITE TRIMAX. For more in-depth installation guidance, consult our technical guide.

1. Prepare and Plan

– Confirm your cladding layout, orientation, and dimensions.

– Select an exterior-grade, durable subframe material (natural or timber treated).

– Gather all required fixings, sealants, tools, and safety equipment.

2. Install the Subframe (including ventilation design)

Orientation:

– For horizontal cladding, fix vertical battens or brackets directly to the structure (max. 400 mm spacing).

– For vertical cladding, create a double subframe: vertical battens fixed to the structure (max. 600mm spacing), plus horizontal counter-battens for fixing boards (max.400mm spacing).

Ventilation:

– Maintain a 20 mm continuous cavity between the back of the TRIMAX boards and the membrane/structure.

– Provide ventilation openings at the top and bottom totalling at least 200 mm² per m² of cladding area.

– Fit insect mesh if necessary.

Moisture Control: Install a breathable, water-repellent membrane behind the boards.

3. Allow for Movement and Clearances

– Leave 5 mm minimum between boards and adjacent building elements.

– Leave 1 mm between abutting board ends.

– Maintain 200–250 mm clearance from ground level to avoid splash-back and contact with soil.

– Chamfer top battens and add drip lips to bottom battens for water run-off.

4. Use Correct Fixings and Pre-Drill

– Use stainless steel screws (A2 or A4 grade; A4 for harsh/coastal conditions) with minimum 35 mm penetration.

– Pre-drill board holes 1 mm larger than the screw shank, and subframe pilot holes at 80% of shank diameter.

– Two screws per batten per board, positioned at least 25 mm from all board edges and corners.

– Do not use nails or staples.

5. Finish and Seal

– Fully finished boards: Seal all cut edges with a matching exterior-grade paint or sealer after fixing.

– Primed boards: Apply full finish coat before installation, then seal cut edges afterward.

– Proper edge sealing protects the coating and maximizes service life.
